It’s a common complaint, in all forms of photography but especially so in wedding photography. I guess it’s the first time most people actually pay for any photos of any form. You may have had family photos when you grew up, but your parents would have paid for those.
I came across this article on petapixel called Why Wedding Photographers’ Prices are “Wack” in which a Florida photographer tries to explain how photography pricing comes about. Now while I won’t say I agree 100% with everything she talked about, but it should be pretty clear that a professional photographer is NOT going to spend a day with you for $300.
It’s not like you HAVE to have a professional photographer at your wedding, if you can’t afford one, don’t get one. But if you’re going to spend money on one, don’t expect to pay peanuts and get more than a monkey (or worse!)
